Sensorial

Sensorial

Children live in a world of senses, colour, size, dimension, shape, form, sound, touch, taste and smell. The Sensorial Montessori materials enable them to clarify, classify and comprehend their world. They also provide a basis for the development of other skills, such as music, mathematics and language. Sensorial exercises include:

  • Visual: distinguish items which are different to the eye
  • Auditory: distinguish items with different sounds
  • Olfactory: distinguish items which give different of smells/scents
  • Chromatic: discriminate colour and shade
  • Stereognostic: identify items which have 3 dimensions (3D)
  • Tactile: identify items through their sense of touch
  • Thermic: distinguish items of different heat temperatures

Video Demonstration

Here is a short video of one of our children completing the trinomial cube which is a sensorial exercise that encourages the child, through using their senses, to develop an understanding of maths in the context of 27 shapes (prisms).
